Car Hire Dublin Review

I left my Sat Nav on top of the car when I dropped the car off in Dublin Airport. I called them and they said that they had found it and would post it on to me. [...]

Things to see/do in Dublin City

The ‘Celtic Tiger’ may have lost its roar of late, but that hasn’t seemed to have stopped tourists visiting Dublin or from finding cheap car hire in Dublin.  The city continues to shine as one of Europe’s most popular city destinations, brimming with historical and cultural attractions and light-hearted banter known as ‘craic’.
The Irish capital is home to one of the youngest populations in Europe.  More often than not, they are the ones filling bar stools and banquettes in the city’s ever-popular trendy bars and restaurants (recession or no recession).

In this modern metropolis, it is also still possible to find traditional haunts, well-organised museums and even horse-drawn carts high-tailing it around cobbled streets.  Meanwhile, a number of free historical attractions, galleries and museums including Trinity College, (Ireland’s oldest university) The Chester Beatty Library and the Guinness Storehouse are on hand to provide the city with ‘living museums’. All of these attractions are easily reached with Dublin car hire.

Dublin may not be one of Europe’s most attractive cities but what it lacks in stunning architecture it more than makes up for in its historical curiosities.  The majority of Dublin’s sightseeing hotspots are situated on the River Liffey, in an area of elegant Georgian mansions and leafy avenues in and around Grafton Street and the pretty St Stephen’s Green.

In terms of Dublin history, experts always fail to agree on exactly when Dublin was first settled, but most say that it was probably a long time before the Gaels settled in these lands.  In the ninth century, the Vikings set up home, even though the Irish (mainly drawn from Celtic stock) managed to usurp them in the 11th century.  The English proved to be a much more resilient lot, first interfering in Irish affairs, then taking control of the city in 1649.

Even though Dublin expanded rapidly and prospered economically during the British Empire, an urge to be independent never waned and in 1916, the Easter Rising set the wheels in motion for a separation from London.

These days Dublin is a member of the European Union, with the headquarters of parliament located in Dublin.
